Between

Between

A$2,200.00

This piece considers a life balanced between two worlds: a period of anticipation and longing, where one life has been left behind but the new is still waiting to be fully realised.

There is an innate sense within us that this life cannot be all there is. We are made for something more — a hunger for fulfilment that this world cannot completely satisfy.

In this ‘in-between’ space, responsibilities remain, work must be done and life continues. Things are hard, but they are also beautiful. We are still able to hope and dream beyond our present circumstances.

The figure represents the many roles and expectations placed on women in particular, and asks what work is of greatest value and where our priorities should lie.

She leaves behind a barren landscape where growth is no longer possible. Her face is turned towards her future, her gaze lifted towards the light and the life-giving potential of water and sun.

The future city is raised up as if transcending. It is an image of freedom, peace, hope and renewal; a place we all long for, where there will be no more tears and no more pain.

What are you leaving behind, and where are you heading? How do your actions and responsibilities today reflect the world you want to be part of?
